ALOPECIA SUFFERERS This disease is a puzzle to many of us as there are many complex reasons for this to attack our body. Along with the trauma of not knowing whether the hair will grow back, ladies and children too have the additional trauma of knowing what they can do whilst waiting for that to happen or not. DO NOT DISPAIR LADIES There are many things available now, to help you disguise any bald spots such as top pieces or small area pieces that can be clipped onto the bald area, which we can colour, match and customise to match your hair exactly, whether it is all the top or sides too. No one will know your secret. For children and younger teenagers too there is a solution. The wigs that are made for children are fabulous and come usually with a monofilament top, which looks just like real scalp, although not as much choice as adults have style wise, they do come in some very simple styles which are favoured by the young. We all know how cruel their peers can be at times, so maximum realism is called for in their cases. There 3 types of alopecia ALOPECIA AREATA Typical symptoms are one or more bald spots, round in shape about the size of a large coin, more often than not a relative or your hairdresser will spot it before you do. This is thought to be an auto immune disease; in a small number of cases it can affect the eyebrows and lashes also. ALOPECIA TOTALIS Is as it says, total hair loss of the head and body typically begins between the ages of 12 to 40. There is a myth that hair colour or too frequent washing or back combing can cause this – not true, there is no evidence that this is true. Some ladies are able to accept their hair loss and never find the need to wear a wig, well I say “good for them”, but I am sure most ladies are traumatised beyond belief that they are losing their hair and their femininity with it. Well ladies, with the technology available, the industry has now come up with wigs and pieces that can not only disguise your baldness, but very often, with the most realistic wigs we have on offer, in all sorts of styles and colours to suit all women, help you regain a few years too! Together with the advice and skills of our hair and wig stylist we are confident we can answer your hair prayer with relative ease. Our collection is vast and we have all sort of bases of pre styled synthetic fibre wigs and real hair wigs, if you prefer. Although we are finding that most ladies are opting for the pre styled synthetic wigs as there is very little maintenance involved. They stay in the style after washing and even when you are caught in the rain. How clever is that? Our wig stylist has seen it all, so you have no reason to feel embarrassed or nervous; you only have to read some of our testimonials to see that you will be looked after and made to feel whole again after a visit with us. New wigs that are now in the UK include lace front, which has an invisible skin like material that the fibre is knotted onto, making the join disappear when placed on the head, giving the illusion of the hair coming from the scalp. These are favoured by ladies who prefer not to have a fringe or would like a side fringe that does not lay flat on the forehead. Monofilament tops and partings, but with machine made back and sides are also great as they are a little more stretchy for ladies that have above average head size, but still have the realistic top skin like scalp. Our ladies come in feeling low and skip out with a new vigour for life more confident and even regaining a few years too. That’s a promise. ALOPECIA UNIVERSALIS This type of alopecia is total hair loss of the head and the body, typically suffered by men, but increasingly in women it would seem too, although only seen in a small number of cases in women. Again there are many products that can help. Now we know a wig can help, but what about the eye brows? Well, good news. There are temporary eyebrows available now that adhere to the skin and can last up to a week at a time and are re usable, splash proof and totally realistic. They are made with real hair and come in all shapes to suit, in fact some ladies have opted to use them even when their hair comes back, as when we get older we do seem to lose them, or if we have over plucked them for years. They are very realistic and look fantastic. Our advice for ladies that are losing their hair due to Alopecia is to shave it all off once there is a need to wear a wig. No more scooping hair from the floor or shower, and makes wearing a wig much more comfortable and is quite liberating, making you feel in control.
